ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Manzano High School graduates Andrew and Austin Erickson have always been there for each other, and that has continued at UNM.

Last year, on the first day of practice Andrew tore his ACL, forcing him to miss the entire season

With the support of his family, Andrew made a full recovery

"I can't really speak enough to what they did for me," he said. "Encouragement ways emotionally going through something like that where I kind of felt like I finally made it and then everything stopped. Everything was taken away."

"He responded a lot better than I think I would've he was excited to work on other things it was just really cool to see how he handled it," Austin said.

The Ericksons were homeschooled during their playing days at Manzano.

In some ways, that experience prepared them for college life, especially during the pandemic.

"Affected me, just by making your own schedule and being able to stick to that," Andrew said. "No teacher really holding you to a strict guidelines helped me helped me being able to keep things organized."

With the season postponed, the UNM football team continues to train in small groups.

Andrew and Austin are keeping things in perspective, making the most of practice reps.

"I was a little nervous, you know, as a walk-on, coming onto the team, and he told me, like, you can play here or you can play should be confident in what you do," Austin said.

"One of the biggest things I can remember regretting is being scared of what's coming and the pressure involved with it, so I try to tell Austin just be confident," Andrew said.

Andrew is an engineering major. Austin plans to study business.
