United player announces retirement, plans to attend seminary school

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Ryan Williams has spent the last two years helping New Mexico United create a foundation

Now, the 24-year-old is moving on to his next chapter, announcing his retirement from professional soccer.

"I'm sad to go because, man, this club is awesome," he said. "The fans are awesome. No other team has fans like these."

Williams plans to attend seminary school.

It's a decision that came after years of dealing with osteochondroma syndrome, a condition that causes bone tumors.

Williams said the condition has forced him to undergo 14 surgeries over the course of his life.
