ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Gwen Maly is having a standout year with the UNM soccer team.

She came to UNM from southern California in 2016.

"I feel really lucky because right when I got to Albuquerque," she said. "I was immediately welcomed into my soccer family and the team has been so amazing about being supportive and welcoming to new players."

After bouncing back from a season-ending torn ACL, Maly is having the best year of her Lobo career.

She led the Mountain West with nine goals.

"This will be my final season. I have decided to go to medical school starting this fall, so I will still be around. I will be attending the University of New Mexico School of Medicine, so I still hope to be around supporting the team and go to some games," she said.

Maly gets another chance to score some goals at her home field. The Lobos take on San Diego state in a cross-divisional match Saturday.

The winner gets the conference title and qualifies for the NCAA tournament.
