UTEP's Ramirez wins NM-WT Women's Amateur Championship

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The final round of the New Mexico West Texas Women's Amateur was at the Santa Ana Golf Club Sunday.

Two Albuquerque natives were in the final group – Samantha Surette and Flavia Torres finished in the top five. 

UTEP golfer Naomi Ramirez pulled away to win by four shots. She will be a sophomore for the Miners this year. 

Ramirez is having a strong summer so far. 

"You never know what the other girls are doing and they are all from out of state," she said. "So you kind of have to push through, just think you're going to do more than them, because coming in the fall, it's going to be even tougher."
