ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — The UNM men's basketball team has a lot of questions without a lot of answers and most of those are about COVID-19.

What they do know is that they have a nice mix of newcomers and vets that could get the Lobos back to the upper division of the Mountain West. The Lobos have nine new players – some freshmen, some transfers, and some returnees.

Coach Paul Weir is looking for guys like Byron Matos to be really good early on. Weir is also expecting big things from Makuach Maluach and North Carolina transfer Jeremiah Francis.

"I think now the rosters where we want it, it's the fastest team we've had here," Weir said. "I think it has the potential to be the best team we've ever had here. I think we know last year's team was terrific on the outset – a lot of experience and ability. We just couldn't get to the finish line but this one's exciting because it's built much more to the future."
