ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Some baseball scouts were on hand Monday to watch Manzano pitcher Mitchell Parker on the hill against Atrsico Heritage at the Albuquerque Metro Baseball Championships.

Parker finished with 12 strikeouts on the day, but the Monarchs gave up four runs in the first. That led to a 4-1 Jaguars win where Tommy Perez hit an RBI to shallow left field.

Atrisco will take on La Cueva in the next round.

In other high school sports news, La Cueva student Austin Denton was selected for the NFHS National High School Spirit of Sport Award. The honor recognizes individuals who exemplify the positive ideals of athletics.

Despite health issues preventing him from playing sports, he still stays active broadcasting and reporting on several events with ESPN Radio and ProView Networks
