La Cueva comes into the season as the defending Class 6A champs. The Bears will be considered one of the favorites heading into the season as they return nine varsity letterman from last year's team.

The Bears won 28 of their last 29 games a year ago.

"We're going to be strong up the middle," La Cueva head coach Gerard Pineda said. "I think our defense is going to be as good as it was last year.  Our offense has a chance to be as good as it was last year, at least close to. And like most people at every level of baseball, it's going to come down to pitching."

"We definitely are going to have to put on a show offensively, that's for sure," added senior Ryan Johnson. "But we have to keep winning. We might not have the same season we had last year, but we have to make sure we stay on track one game after another."
