ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- The Manzano boys basketball team has made a magnificent turnaround this season.

Last season the Monarchs won two games. Under new head coach Dominick Romero, Manzano racked up 15 wins and landed a spot in the state basketball tournament.

Manzano is a No. 9 seed and will take on West Mesa on Saturday. They would love the opportunity to reach the quarterfinals and play on the big stage.

"It's amazing because we're actually starting to win," senior Eric Sonnenberg said. "Finally getting to the Pit ... hopefully."

"It's been a great run. Now that we're here, the boys aren't satisfied," Romero added. "It's not like, OK, we made it to state. We're good.' The boys are still hungry. They want to achieve some bigger and better things."
