ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.— The defending 6A State Champions, Manzano Monarchs, returned to dominant form Friday night.

Coach Phillip Martinez couldn't have asked for more a perfect game against Clovis. The Monarchs shut out the Wildcats 19-0.

Xavier Ivey-Saud had a huge game, rushing for 144 yards and a touchdown.

On the defensive side of the ball, Manzano held the Wildcats to 56 total yards. The defense also had five sacks.

For a team that has struggled early, Friday’s performance was just what the doctor ordered.

"This game we played, all offense, defense and special teams came up big,” Xavier said. “Defense shut them out, special teams came up with a punt block and offense put points on the board.”

Manzano will look to keep the momentum going against Sandia.
