ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The Sandia football team will be relying on young talent again this season.

Last season, eight sophomores put in a lot of time on the field.

Head coach Kevin Barker is hoping that on the job experience pays off this season.

But he knows it will be tough. The Matadors are in the same district as powerhouses La Cueva and Eldorado.

“Our off-season workouts were exceptional, both in the weight room and on the field, so they are ready to compete at the varsity level. Our schedule is extremely tough but we are ready to compete at that level,” Barker said.

The Matadors open the season against Cibola on August 23.
