Hawker Vanguard

Hawker Vanguard is a special assignment reporter for KOB 4. He began his television career at KOB in 2009, on the day analog television became a thing of the past. It was a milestone that marked his involvement in the shift to the digital era of news gathering. Throughout his career at KOB, he has held roles as a graphic artist, producer, and reporter.

He returns home to Albuquerque from Charlotte, North Carolina, after serving as Chief Transportation Correspondent for a major cable network. Hawker covered stories from coast to coast and overseas, including an exclusive opportunity to survey the wreckage of TWA 800 with the NTSB. He earned recognition and distinction with an Edward R. Murrow award for reporting from Haiti following the devastating 2021 earthquake.

As a native New Mexican, Hawker takes pride in collaborating with some of the most dedicated journalists in the state. He is a member of the National Association of Hispanic Journalists and the Indigenous Journalists Association — nonprofit organizations dedicated to promoting outreach and continuing education opportunities.

When Hawker isn’t reporting on New Mexico’s unique culture and history, you might find him capturing breathtaking photos on 35mm film (he develops the rolls himself).
