Court docs.: 3-year-old shot baby while adults were in the shower

According to a criminal complaint, Shayanne Nelson and Tyrell Bitsilly were in the shower at the Zia Motel in McKinley County when Nelson’s three-year-old found a gun and accidentally fired it, hitting the baby.

Nelson said she didn’t know there was a gun in the room. She claimed it must have been left there by a prior occupant.

The baby girl was taken to Gallup Indian Medical Center, where she was listed in critical condition.

Nelson and Bitsilly are facing child abuse charges.
