ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Albuquerque isn't the only New Mexico city with a balloon fiesta.

In less than seven days, thousands of people from all over the world will be looking to the sky as 30 balloons fill the air at the 28th annual White Sands Balloon Fiesta in Alamogordo.

It's the only time private aircraft are allowed to fly over the national monument.

"We're expecting a large crowd of 12,000-15,000 people coming into our community," said Michelle Gill, who is with the Alamogordo Chamber of Commerce.

People who live in the area can't wait to see the balloons.

"I'm excited to see a bunch of new stuff going there and enjoying-- not only myself there, but I'll be having friends and family visiting," Phillip Delgado said.

Alamogordo's Chamber of Commerce said they wanted to try something new this year.

"We had a very successful 'Red, White and Blue Brew' music festival last year over the 4th of July, but the weather was an issue," said Gill. "So, we met with the White Sands Balloon Invitational and balloon committee, and decided to join forces-- It's now the White Sands Balloon and Music Festival."

4 musical guests from El Paso to Arizona will be joining in on the fun for the two-day fiesta.

The event kicks off next weekend. It's $20 to get in.
