ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – About 15 residents in San Juan County have been allowed back to their homes after being evacuated Friday as fires threatened their homes.
The lightning-caused Arena Canyon Fire has torched 128 acres so far west of Navajo Lake and about five miles south of the New Mexico/Colorado border. The fire is burning on private and Bureau of Land Management lands.
Fire officials say the Cottonwood Day Use Area at Navajo Lake State Park will remain closed as crews continue to battle the blaze that is now 40-percent contained.
