Attempt to retrieve barricaded suspect in Alamogordo turns into officer-involved shooting

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico State Police officers say they were assisting local Alamogordo authorities in securing an "armed and barricaded subject" sometime Sunday afternoon when shots rang out.

No police were injured following the officer-involved shooting, which unfolded in the southeast New Mexico city on South Florida Avenue. The unidentified suspect is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries, according to NMSP.

No details were provided as far as how many shots were fired, what led up to the officer-involved shooting or if the suspect also fired shots. It also isn't clear why the suspect was being sought by officers.
