ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Some people are carrying around "face mask exemption cards," but the Better Business Bureau says they don't carry any weight.
"They claim to be endorsed by the Department of Justice or associated with the Americans with Disability, but it turns out that they're fake," said Matthew Morris of the Better Business Bureau.
The Department of Justice has put out an alert that says the cards are not sanctioned by them.
The group behind the cards, the Freedom to Breathe Agency, only has an online presence and it's not affiliated with the government. On their website, the group says it's mission is to protect freedom and liberty.
Mora says there are rising reports of these fake cards in New Mexico and across the country, and that some consumers are being duped into buying them.
"The price for these have varied, depending on whoever is dealing these out," Mora said.
The governor's public health order requires New Mexicans to wear a mask in public. People who fail to comply could be fined $100.
