DURANGO, Colo. - San Juan National Forest officials say the bear cub that suffered burned paws due to the 416 Fire, is recovering nicely.

The agency posted the update Wednesday on their Facebook page.

Photos show how badly burned the orphaned cub's paws were when officials first stumbled upon her. Firefighters spotted her wandering alone in a burned-over area north of Durango in late June.

She was taken to a state facility where caretakers have been treating her.

Colorado Parks and Wildlife staff say the cub will be joining some other cubs in the rehab facility until she can be released in the winter.
