ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – A wildfire west of Reserve in Catron County has grown to about 800 acres, Gila National Forest officials said Tuesday.
The Buzzard Fire is located about four miles north of Eagle Peak Lookout in the Reserve Ranger District. There are no structures currently being threatened, but a temporary flight restriction over the fire is in place.
The blaze is burning grass and heavy timber. The cause remains under investigation.
Meanwhile, lightning is believed to have caused the quarter-acre North Peak Fire in the Sandia Mountains between Piedra Lisa and Osha loop trail. Officials said Monday's rain did not do enough to lower the fire danger.
Crews have stopped the advance of a fire near Canon in Sandoval County. Officials estimate the Casitas Fire has burned about 10 acres on private land off Highway 485 north of the Jemez Pueblo.
