Memorial planned for slain Espanola man

ESPANOLA, N.M. - A memorial is planned Tuesday night for 18-year-old Cameron Martinez who police say was shot and killed in a case of mistaken identity.

The memorial will be held at Espanola Valley High School starting at 6 p.m.

Martinez was killed last Thursday night outside of the Ohkay Owingeh Casino. Investigators say Mark Hice, Anton Martinez, and Axel Zamarron shot at the car that Martinez was riding in with three friends.

Police also believe Hice fired shots at a woman's car before Martinez was killed. That woman was not injured.

According to a warrant for Hice, police say he was hiding out in Albuquerque following the deadly shooting but that his mother got him to turn himself in to State Police.

Hice reportedly told police he had been in a dispute with other people and was shooting at anyone he felt may be at threat to him.
