Ceremony honors lives lost during Vietnam ambush

ANGEL FIRE, N.M. – Fifty years ago, a Vietnam ambush took the lives of 17 Marines and injured dozens more, including 1st Lt. David Victor Westphall of New Mexico. Westphall's death inspired his family to build what would become the nation's first major Vietnam veterans memorial.

Many people went there Monday to remember. The 17 names were read aloud as silence filled the memorial site under partly cloudy skies.
