Chevel Shepherd's song selection has New Mexico roots

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Chevel Shepherd gave a nod to her New Mexico roots during her top 8 performance on The Voice Monday night.

Chevel sang "Blue" by Leann Rimes, which was originally recorded at Norman Petty Studios in Clovis.

Petty produced numerous songs for big-name singers, including Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and Waylon Jennings in the 1950s and 1960s.

The studio, which is located at 1313 W. 7th Street, offers tours through the Clovis/Curry County Chamber of Commerce.
