"Going there the night before kinda helps, so you have kinda little bit of an idea," Brooklyn Brown said.

Brooklyn was able to score an iPad.

"What's funny is a lot kids came out yesterday and were pre-shopping yesterday to get their list ready, so they could come in this morning, get all their shopping done and still make it to school on time," said Nick Stasi, treasurer of the Fraternal Order of Police for Durango’s Lodge 8.

Other children wanted more modest gifts.

"I got a nerf gun, which came to a total of $10.88,” Benjamin Rowewood said.

Different styles of shopping aside, the children said it was important to remember the necessities the giving spirit of the holidays.

"I definitely needed 10 pairs of socks," Rowewood said. "It's not about getting, it's about giving."
