ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. -- Pre-evacuation notices have been lifted as firefighters make progress on the Diener Canyon and Bluewater fires. On Monday, forest officials said the Diener Canyon Fire is about 20 to 25 percent contained while the Bluewater Fire is 10 percent contained.

Authorities say people who live in that area should still have an evacuation plan in case the high winds make the fires worse this week. A community meeting will be held at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday at the old county complex in Grants.

In southern New Mexico, the 246 Fire near Capitan is 50-percent contained. The fire has already destroyed 16 buildings, including two homes. The cause is still under investigation.

Another fire was reported Monday on the north side of the Capitan Mountains also off highway 246. The 40-acre Scout Fire is about 22 miles northeast of Capitan.
