A judge granted the request by a district attorney to keep Roger Gage and John Powell detained "in order to protect the children and families of northern New Mexico," according to a release.

Gage and Powell also face charges of aggravated battery, conspiracy and tampering with evidence. On Tuesday they pleaded not guilty to killing Abraham Martinez, April Browne and Kierin Guillemin at the end of May in Dixon.

Four others are facing charges stemming from the incident, including burglary of the home where the victims were killed.
