FARMINGTON, N.M.- Powerful wind whipped up dust and pollen across New Mexico on Wednesday.

Doctor Sugar Singleton-Marcy said people can take preventative measures to avoid suffering from allergies.

“Some of the things you can do to help with your allergy symptoms are number one, stay inside,” Singleton-Marcy said. “Don't be out if the wind is really blowing or if you know it is the time of year that your allergies are affecting you.”

Singleton-Marcy said there are also options for people who can’t stay inside.

"When you get back home, at least wash your hands, throw some cold water on your face and best of all, take a shower before you go to bed so you aren't going to sleep with pollen all over you,” she said.

Allergy symptoms and the severity of them vary from person to person. They can include itchy eyes, sore throat and a runny noise.
