Teachers and student at Farmington High School were still buzzing less than 24-hours after she named the winner.

“Super excited, super proud that somebody from our school made it out there and she is actually making a career, like, with her life,” said Chevel’s classmate, Kaylee Stowell.

Chevel will return home to Farmington Saturday.

Her father said he knew she would be coming home a winner.

"I told ya! Didn't I tell ya? My daughter was gonna win from the beginning! She did it! I love her and I love New Mexico,” Robert Shepherd said.

Plans are in the works for a welcome home celebration for Chevel. Stay with KOB.com for details.
