FARMINGTON, N.M. - A 12-year-old Farmington student has been arrested for allegedly making threats toward Tibbets Middle School.

Police say the student was heard saying that he was going to shoot up the school.

“The Farmington Police Department takes the safety of our children and schools very serious," said Detective Lieutenant Joshua Laino. "As such, the department has and will continue to take a zero tolerance approach to these types of incidents and threats within our school.”

According to police, the threat is not credible but the student is facing charges for interfering with the educational process.

Parents are encouraged to talk with their children about the seriousness of making threats.
