Farmington school district offers jobs to furloughed federal employees

FARMINGTON, N.M. – People who are not working because of the government shutdown in the Farmington area can apply and have their application expedited to work for the Farmington Municipal School District.
"What we are doing is offering custodial, substitute teacher and lunch aide positions to any furloughed federal employee,” said Renee Lucero who works with Farmington Municipal School District. "We know if something is going on at home and there is no money or there is worries, that affects your children. So anything we can do to help kids learn, that is what we are here for,” Lucero said.
According to the district, applications for openings will be processed within 48 hours of submission. Word about of the job openings has spread, causing the initial announcement to be shared more than six hundred times.
"Apply online and we'll get you in a classroom, we'll get you helping with a lunch aide, we'll get you as a custodian. Those are positions we need filled,” Lucero said.
