FARMINGTON, N.M.- There is still hope for New Mexico dancer, Poppin John, to advance to the finale of NBC’s World of Dance competition.

Despite his fancy footwork, he missed a guaranteed spot by three-tenths of a point. However, he could receive a wildcard spot.

In his hometown of Farmington, residents believe, win or lose, Poppin John is bringing pride to the community.

"I think because we come from such a small area, it's really neat to see people excel in the art of dance,” said Farmington High School counselor Stepheny Alexander.

Passion for dancing is growing rapidly in Farmington, leading Alexander to launch a new dance program for high school students at Farmington High and Piedra Vista next year.

With his performances on World of Dance, Poppin John is inspiring people across the world.

"This is such a hard style to appreciate and I'm so happy that I'm here representing for poppers and street dance,” Poppin John said.
