The incident left four members of a family, all adults, dead.

"There was a call about a domestic violence situation. My officers responded. As a result of the incident, there are four people dead, including the suspect," said Phillip Francisco, Navajo Nation Police Chief.

Navajo police said a fifth member of the family was shot. She was flown to an Albuquerque hospital for treatment.

According to people in the community, the family was well-known in the area. They were apparently helping mountain communities get power lines.

"They were really outgoing. They've done so much for our chapter and our community members and they are going through a tough loss," said Tamara Jim, of the Tsayatoh Chapter House.
