SILVER CITY, N.M. – A former employee for the town of Silver City has been accused of embezzling more than $100,000 from the city.

According to an arrest warrant, Leann Misquez was the former city purchasing agent.  Investigators say she used the city credit card to make purchases for her personal business and pay household bills and then forged receipts and other documents in an attempt to hide her activity.

The discrepancies were discovered and compiled in a notebook by current employees.  Using that information, police were able to move forward and interview Misquez. During that meeting, police say she admitted to using the city’s credit card but “couldn’t remember exactly what she had done,” when asked how she covered up the purchases.
