DURANGO, Colo. – With rain from tropical storm Rosa rolling in, La Plata County officials say they are preparing for potentially dangerous situations.

"Our road and bridge department does have equipment staged up, kind of below the 416 burn scar to make sure if we need to respond to something right away we are able to do so,” La Plata County Public Information Officer, Megan Graham said.

From lining up equipment to watching the radar, the county is preparing for anything the rain brings.

"So we are geared up for any possible flooding or debris flow, but right now it is looking like we are getting a little reprieve from the storm," Graham said.

When it comes to homes, the county officials are asking residents to use common sense.

"I think people are aware of the risk and we just want to make sure people do pay attention to what is going on upstream from them," Graham said.

According to county officials, they are hopeful there won't be any mudslides along Highway 550, but they are still advising people to travel cautiously over the next few days.
