Large gas leak stopped in Shiprock

AZTEC, N.M.- A large gas line leak that forced the evacuations of 47 homes and Mesa Elementary School in Shiprock has been stopped.

The gas leak was east of Highway 491, at mile marker 91.5.

Firefighters will be checking gas levels in every home before people are allowed to return.

Navajo Utility workers will also be checking gas lines and appliances before relighting them. 

No injuries were reported.
