ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- A New Mexico high school student has spent the holiday season gathering presents who can’t leave the hospital for Christmas.

Tamia Garcia decided to do something special for the children after completing an internship with UNM Hospital, where she learned about tumors in the brain and central nervous system tumors.

In the process of dropping off the toys she had been collecting for two weeks, Tamia met Dr. Jodi Mayfield.

Dr. Mayfield is doing exactly what Tamia wants to do in the future.

“I have a passion for little kids and they just inspire me to make the world a better place for them,” Tamia said.
