HOBBS, N.M. – The Hobbs Police Department is the latest law enforcement agency in New Mexico to consider giving officers raises.
According to the Hobbs News-Sun, officials are trying to keep officers from leaving for higher-paying jobs. HPD officers are already the highest-paid in southeastern New Mexico, and one of the highest-paid in the entire state.
The development comes as Rio Rancho police union officials continue salary negotiations with the city to prevent a potential mass exodus of badges from the Rio Rancho Police Department. A handful of them have already packed up their things and left for better-paying departments.
