CLOVIS, N.M. -- Curiosity got the best of Billie Patrick, a Clovis resident.

A video of a hand-dug tunnel went viral on Facebook. The original post has been removed, but it still drew people like Patrick to the tunnel near Beachum Field, a park in Clovis.

"I was reading on Facebook that some guy has lived here for almost a year, homeless, underneath the ground," she said.

The video gave Facebook users an underground tour of someone's home. It showed a bed, drawers and a closet.

There have been different reactions to the tunnel and the person who dug it. Patrick thought it was smart. She said the person who dug it, is using their survival skills.

It turned out that the person living in the tunnel has called it home for more than a year. Sean Heron, 43-years-old, started digging in February last year. On Thursday, the entrance to the tunnel was covered by dirt. But with a closer inspection, it wasn’t completely filled up.

Ali Ghaffari Jr., the son of the property owner, Dr. Ali Ghaffari, said he has been visiting the tunnel since he heard about it. He is eager to meet Heron and wants to offer him help.

Ghaffari Jr. said it’s an interesting situation but wants to make sure Heron is safe. For now, Ghaffari Jr. said he will be checking in on Heron throughout the evening, hoping to meet him.
