It happened Monday around 6 p.m. on State Road 128 between Loving and Jal.

Police say a preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Dodge truck was traveling west on SR 128 when it crossed the center lane and went into oncoming traffic, crashing into a 2010 Ford F-250.

The driver of the Dodge, 33-year-old Patricio Montaño Ponce of Texas was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger in his car, 41-year-old Rafael Arturo Licon from Ft. Worth, was also killed.

The driver of the Ford truck, a 27-year-old Carlsbad man, was airlifted from the scene and taken to the hospital with unknown injuries.

Police say alcohol does not appear to be a factor in this crash.
