ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - As the temperatures begin to cool, and the leaves begin changing color, many of you are likely thinking of fall. And what better way to get outside and enjoy the change in the season than by packing up the family and hitting a street fair or festival.
“In New Mexico, festivals and fairs are a big motivator for travel. Last year, 8 percent of overnight trips and 5 percent of day trips people went and attended a special event compared to 4-percent of the national average,” Rebecca Latham, Cabinet Secretary for the New Mexico Tourism Department said.
There's something for everyone. From the Enchanted Skies Star Party in Magdalena to the Chile and Cheese Festival in Roswell.
“We have them all categorized by date at newmexico.org and you can find something that piques your interest. Whether you're looking for an art festival, or something outdoorsy, or something that's unique to our cultural heritage,” Latham said.
Including the final event of the season, the Dia de Muertos festival, November 3rd in Deming, where you can feast your eyes on beautiful arts, crafts, and the festive sounds of a mariachi jam session.
“Festivals, events, fairs…they're so important to our rural New Mexico communities. It gives people reason to travel and spend the night in places they may not otherwise visited, so they’re real economic drivers for little towns all across New Mexico,” Latham said.
