ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- New Mexico Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver announced Tuesday that she will no longer run for U.S. Senate.

“When I entered the race for U.S. Senate, I was the only candidate supporting Medicare for All; I was the only candidate rejecting corporate PAC money; and I was the only candidate calling for impeachment. Over the course of this campaign, that has changed," Toulouse Oliver said.

The Democratic secretary of state was taking on Rep. Ben Ray Lujan for the seat that will be vacated by Sen. Tom Udall.

"First and foremost, Maggie Toulouse Oliver is a friend. In this campaign, Maggie stood up for our values - like health care for all and addressing the climate crisis. Her voice made our democratic process stronger, and I'm honored to have her support for my U.S. Senate campaign," Lujan said.

Toulouse Oliver said she will focus her efforts on election security as New Mexico's secretary of state.
