24-year-old Raheem Benally was taken into police custody Thursday for allegedly stabbing 37-year-old Philbert Vanwinkle to death on Brother Avenue Wednesday.

According to police, onlookers reported that the two had been fighting in the street prior to the stabbing.

The stabbing took place near a daycare. Officials with the daycare informed KOB that the building had been closed when the stabbing occurred.

While the alleged suspect is in police custody, police are still advising residents to be on the lookout and to inform them immediately in they witness any fights.

"We don't want people to put themselves in harm's way as well. So give us a call and we are available and will respond,” said detective Devin Badoni with the Farmington Police Department.
