CLOVIS, N.M. – A man is wanted for starting a fire inside the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Clovis.
According to a press release, Ricky Morse, was seen on surveillance video gathering bulletins and lighting them on fire.
There was no property damage to the church, but police say Morse did try to steal from a donation box.
The church is usually open 24 hours a day, but it will be closing early for the rest of the week as a safety precaution.
The incident has left parishioners worried. “Makes me feel like we’re not able to do what we would like to do,” said Jeanne Kriegshauser.
Police and fire crews say there was a fire at a building across from the church a couple hours earlier. They are investigating if the fires are connected.
