SANTA FE, N.M. - A five-year-old boy has passed away and according to a criminal complaint, the boy's stepmothers admitted to strangling him.

First Judicial District Attorney Marco Serna says Melynie Tyalan Curtis will be charged with child abuse resulting in death following the passing of the boy this morning.

“I am outraged and disgusted by the horrific abuse this young child suffered allegedly at the hands of his own stepmother, and now that innocent child has passed away as a result,” said District Attorney Serna.

Serna says the boy was airlifted to UNM Hospital on Saturday. Authorities say the boy had bruises on his buttocks and ligatures around his neck.

According to the DA's Office, the boy was brought to the hospital two days before that with a broken clavicle.

Two other children with Curtis at the time of her arrest have been placed in CYFD custody.
