Murder victim's daughter battles cancer

June 12, 2018 06:25 PM

It’s been nearly two weeks since a triple homicide stunned the town of Dixon, New Mexico. Now, a grieving family is battling more than disbelief.

One of the victim’s daughters is fighting cancer.

April Browne’s 12-year-old daughter Ashley was diagnosed with a very rare cancer called rhabdomyosarcoma.

Browne’s sister, Jessie McKeon, said telling the teenager that her mother had passed away was extremely tough.

“There was no way to try and make it anything less than what it was. We just sat down with her and let her know that something bad had happened to her mom,” said McKeon.

Browne’s father is now taking on a lot more responsibilities.

“It’s become very apparent that I’m not going to be able to work. We’re going to try and keep up our everyday life, which is our home and daily bills, along with travel Ashley needs to get to,” said Scott Quintanilla.

He’s referring to the weeks of chemo, surgeries, and radiation.

Family members believe Browne's struggles with addiction lead to her demise. But they say they can’t let that hurt and grief get in the way of Ashley's fight.

The family is raising money to help with treatment and expenses. You can donate on their GoFundMe page.
