ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – New Mexico Fire officials say a new blaze has been sparked in the Carson National Forest about five miles southeast of Pot Creek in the Sardinas Canyon.

The Sardinas Canyon Fire is 75 acres in size so far as a hotshot crew, fire engines and air support work to contain it. Forest Service Road 442 is closed to the public, and no structures are currently threatened.

Officials say the local communities of Mora, Chacon and Holman may experience smoke hazards due to winds. Those with drones are being urged not to fly them in the area as they impede firefighting efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
