ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – Thousands of New Mexicans headed to the polls Tuesday to cast their votes in the state’s primary election.

Numerous voting sites across the state were open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The Secretary of State’s Office reports that nearly 100,000 early votes have been cast in this election. Since New Mexico has a closed primary, voters will only see the candidates in their registered party on their ballots.

One race in the spotlight throughout the state is, of course, the race for New Mexico’s next governor. Three Democratic candidates are vying for the chance to lead our state. Jeff Apodaca, Joseph Cervantes, and Michelle Lujan Grisham are all in the running.

Steve Pearce is the lone Republican in the race.

There are many other races happening around the state. You can get a look at all of them, here.
