SANTA FE, N.M.- The popcorn is at the new Regal multiplex at Santa Fe Place Mall.

The six theaters are lined with electric-reclining seats and there are plans for the theater to eventually start serving food and alcohol to movie-goers.

"Kind of in line with this more premium feel that movie theaters are going for, Regal included, where you're going to have hot food, leather seats and a lot more space around you,” said Rob Morlino, the mall's marketing manager.

Morlino thinks the new movie theater will attract more business to the mall.

“Obviously, it opens up a market, most people love movies. Even if you're not a huge mall shopper, this gives you an opportunity to come in here and actually experience some of the other tenants we've put in here like H&M and Forever 21."

Morlino said the goal is to make Santa Fe Place Mall a community hub.

"Obviously malls are changing in the services they provide, there's more experiential stuff, you hear all these arcade games behind us, and this just bolsters that," he said.

The Santa Fe New Mexican reports Regal used to operate two movie theaters at Santa Fe Place Mall but both of them closed about 7 years ago.
