Dan Arvizu will succeed Garrey Carruthers, whose contract the NMSU Board of Regents decided not to extend.  According to the Las Cruces Sun-News reports, Arvizu currently serves as a senior advisor to the Emerson Collective, a non-profit focused on social equity issues, among other things.

He has also served as the former director and CFO of the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Lab in Colorado, the Sun-News report states. Arvizu beat out four other finalists for the position.

In addition, John Flores was also appointed to serve as NMSU's next president. Carruthers has been serving as both since 2013.
