Pavement maintenance program returns in Roswell

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Roswell has begun its annual pavement maintenance program.

Louis Najar, the city’s engineer, says the program is a cost-saving measure.

"Just with what we’re doing right now with the hot recycling and the micro surfacing on top is $1.2 million," he said. "When you only get about $5 million worth of maintenance, you just try to do what you can do because we should be doing probably closer to $15 million a year."

Najar points to a low gross receipts tax as a reason they’ve got to be frugal.

The City of Roswell has 330 miles of streets. Right now, the streets chosen for pavement maintenance are based on a pavement evaluation to determine the most critical areas in need.

The micro surfacing project is set to wrap April 13.
