ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- City officials will consider a major new project Roswell.

It would transform the old municipal airport into a mix-use space for residential and business units.

Community Development Director Bill Morris said he’s been working on the master plan for three years.

Morris said the project, known as OMA or Old Municipal Airport, will promote an active community because it would include bike paths and walkways.

"The intent is to create shops and outdoor activity venues, restaurants and we're going to accomplish that by having wider sidewalks, so restaurants can create these spaces out there, and be in close proximity to the actual plaza," Morris said.

Morris hopes construction will start by 20-20.

The city council is expected to consider development approval in four months.

"We can start to then look at options to try to market this property to the private sector," Morris said.
