ALBUQUERQUE, N.M.- Counties across New Mexico are encouraging people to sign up to become a poll worker.

"Counties need poll workers," said Alex Curtas, communications director for the Secretary of State. "Obviously, the COVID crisis has diminished the amount of traditional poll workers that counties can usually rely on."

Poll workers need to be a registered voter in the county they are applying to work. They will also have to take a training class.

"You have to take an oath of office, have basic computer skills along with a mobile phone, an email address and importantly, you cannot be a candidate, a law enforcement officer, or a close relative of any candidate on the ballot," Curtas said.
